Jiang Hua, however, did not do that.
As they looked at the things in the bag, their desire for survival overshadowed any thought.
They cautiously called out the hidden child, afraid that these items would be snatched away, and not daring to make a fire, they opened the canned food and devoured it like starving wolves.
Finally, they had their first substantial meal in a long time.
Tong Sui was drawn by the aroma of the food.
When he woke up, he felt his head was not as heavy as before. Sitting on the bed and contemplating for a moment, he suddenly remembered something.
Jiang Hua?
That didn’t seem to be his dream.
He threw off the covers and got out of bed, pushing open the bedroom door.
The sounds from the kitchen became clearer, and Tong Sui leaned against the wall, quickly making his way over.
A figure with broad shoulders and a narrow waist was busy in the kitchen.
Tong Sui rubbed his eyes, confirming that it was no illusion caused by his anxious awakening.
“Team Hua…”
He called softly, his voice hoarse from just waking up, slightly trembling with uncertainty.
Jiang Hua turned off the stove.
Tong Sui’s hair was tousled from sleep, and there was still a hint of fog in his eyes.
His gaze fell on Tong Sui’s feet, a pair of pristine white feet resting on the dark wooden floor, the faint blue veins visible through his fair skin.
Tong Sui showed no signs of the hardships of life.
Or perhaps, even in such a disgusting and filthy world as the apocalypse, he could not be changed.
Jiang Hua walked over and brushed aside his slightly long bangs.
“Are you feeling better?”
Tong Sui’s long eyelashes trembled lightly.
He looked like a small kitten suddenly exposed from its cozy nest, eyes round and bright. Upon realizing that Jiang Hua was merely checking his temperature, his tense shoulders relaxed.
“Much better now.”
As soon as Tong Sui’s words fell, he was quickly swept up in Jiang Hua’s arms, startling him into grabbing Jiang Hua’s clothes.
He watched as Jiang Hua headed towards the bedroom.
Suddenly remembering their conversation before sleeping, Tong Sui’s fingers curled up, and a faint blush crept onto his pallid cheeks.
“Um… not yet.”
Jiang Hua sat him down on the bed, “What?”
“I mean I might need some time,” Tong Sui felt his face heating up further as he spoke, fearing he might melt from embarrassment, “I won’t go back on my word.”
Jiang Hua paused, but upon seeing his flushed cheeks, immediately understood he had misunderstood something, letting out a soft laugh.
“What are you laughing at…”
Tong Sui felt even more embarrassed.
He grasped the hem of his clothes, wanting to pull away from Jiang Hua’s embrace.
A large hand grasped his waist.
Jiang Hua lifted his hand, his slightly calloused fingertip brushing against Tong Sui’s warm eyes, appearing to bring the blush to life, and Tong Sui’s eyelashes glistened with mist as he stared at him.
Jiang Hua initially wanted to clarify that Tong Sui had misunderstood; he simply noticed Tong Sui wasn’t wearing shoes and meant to carry him back to put on shoes.
Tong Sui’s cute yet unaware flirtation, alongside his sudden shyness, made Jiang Hua want to lean in closer just watching him.
After a few deep breaths, Jiang Hua couldn’t hold back the emotions he had suppressed during this time.
He leaned in and kissed Tong Sui.
Perhaps considering the person in his arms had just recovered from illness, he kissed him more cautiously than before, with a touch that felt more grounding than the kiss itself—his fingertip brushing against the hot tip of Tong Sui’s ear, continuously rubbing it into a lively red.
Tong Sui thought he found his footing and tried to respond quietly.
Then Jiang Hua went wild.
The fragile disguise completely crumbled; behind the tenderness lay a beast-like dominance that instantly swept Tong Sui’s moment of confidence into chaos.
Tong Sui’s mind went blank.
He didn’t know how he ended up back on the bed, but when he reacted, his clothes were crumpled in all sorts of ways.
Fortunately, Jiang Hua did not continue, giving Tong Sui a chance to rest.
How embarrassing.
After not kissing for some time, he completely regressed into someone unable to handle it at all. Why was Jiang Hua becoming more and more skilled?
He covered his eyes with his arm, trying to cool down his burning eyelids.
Suddenly, his ankle felt warm.
Tong Sui startled, instinctively wanting to pull his foot back.
“Don’t move.”
Jiang Hua held his calf, helping him put on socks, covering his snow-white instep and delicate ankle.
Tong Sui blushed as he finished putting on his slippers. When he walked out with Jiang Hua, his steps felt a bit unsteady. After finally sitting down, he slumped against the chair back like a boneless cotton ball basking in the sun, feeling soft and fluffy.
The earlier emotions were too heightened, causing his hunger to arrive rather slowly.
Jiang Hua reheated the dishes.
Though he hadn’t touched the kitchenware for a while, his cooking skills hadn’t declined; in fact, considering Tong Sui’s lack of appetite, he made each dish somewhat lighter.
Naturally, Tong Sui was also attracted by the subtle aroma.
Jiang Hua served the hot porridge, adding minced meat with mushrooms and a handful of green onions, hearty but not greasy, nor too bland.
Tong Sui eagerly finished the entire bowl.
He also ate quite a bit of the other dishes, making this one of his most substantial meals in quite some time.
Though it was still less than what an average adult male would eat, Tong Sui genuinely couldn’t manage another bite.
Jiang Hua had no habit of wasting food and easily finished the leftovers.
When he returned after tidying up, Tong Sui lazily leaned back in his chair, squinting like a fluffy cotton ball basking in the sun.
Jiang Hua reached out and rubbed the top of his soft hair.
“Want to go for a stroll to aid digestion?”
Tong Sui raised his long lashes, looking at him in confusion.
Jiang Hua didn’t explain what exactly they would be doing.
He genuinely treated it as if they were just going downstairs for a quick stroll. After changing shoes, Jiang Hua draped an extra coat over him.
Upon exiting the elevator, Tong Sui finally realized they were not alone.
